How to Repair a Wetsuit?

No matter how high the quality of a wetsuit, it is almost inevitable that the wetsuit will be caught on rocks or some sharp objects after repeated use. Hence a reliable wetsuit repair glue kit to repair tears and slits is a must-have item for divers.

Wetsuit repair requires strong and long-lasting bonding performance. Wetsuit glue is made of neoprene cement, which is a contact adhesive especially formulated for repairing small rips and tears in wetsuits. Neoprene cement can also bond many other rubber-based items.

To repair a wetsuit is not as complicated as one imagines. With a tube of proper adhesive, it is easy to fix small tears in less than 30 minutes.

Tools to have: 50%~70% isopropyl alcohol pad (to clean the slit area before repair), neoprene cement (to bond and repair slit area), applicator nozzle (to easily apply glue).

How to make the wetsuit repair yourself

1. Locate the slit of the wetsuit.
2. Clean the area around the slit using isopropyl alcohol patch. Keep the area dry.
3. Take off the tube cap of neoprene cement and put on an applicator nozzle. Squeeze the aluminum tube gently. Apply cement directly to the slit area if the slit is smaller than 5 mm diameter. In case the slit is larger than 5 mm diameter, it is suggested to apply cement on and around the slit.
4. Hold the slit area in place as the neoprene cement bonds. Press the edges into each other if necessary.
