Inflatable pool is such a wonderful household item that it brings many joys to families, especially those having kids. Depending on size and style, a small-sized inflatable pool costs twenty to hundreds of bucks. We want it to hold up well for a long period of time, although we need to fix it using pool patch kits when a puncture is caused by accident at times. For example, the kitten claws a tear in it or you drag it on the ground and it got cut by something.
A pool patch kit can be used for do-it-yourself repairs. For those who do not have many experiences in repairing, it would be frustrating if a repair kit did not seem to do its job well after all the hassles of gluing and patching. To increase the odds of successful repairs, let’s look at the tips from people who have made it.
Tips for patching inflatable pool using repair glue:
– Be sure to clean the area that needs to be patched. Keep it dry and smooth without dust and dirt before applying adhesive and patch. Clean it with alcohol if necessary.
– It is strongly recommended that you use fine-grade sandpaper or a small pebble to sand down the area to be repaired. Roughen the fabric around the tear will help the glue to hold tightly.
– A repair kit comes with one or two pieces of vinyl for patching. Cut a piece for your damaged area and be sure to cut around the corner to make it rounded. Patches with corners tend to lift up afterwards.
– As the viscous glue contains solvent, it takes time for the solvent to volatilize. Once you apply glue on the patch, wait 30 seconds to 1 minute for the solvent to volatilize before sticking the patch onto the damaged area. This will speed up the curing process.
– Once you have done with gluing and patching, wait 24 hours before re-inflating if possible. The glue needs sufficient time to set and cure, especially under humid condition.
– A well-glued patch will hold up for months and even years. However, if the damaged area is on the spot where you would constantly drag against the ground, there is much chance it will rub off at some point. Should this happen, you need to make the repairs all over again.
