If you are into water sports like swimming and boat rowing, you will be handling a variety of inflatable products. Inflatable boats, pool liners, pool floats and lounges, inflatable toys…. These items are amazing in a way they bring so much fun to us in summer time. They are commonly made of vinyl fabrics. Should there be puncture, rips or tears, it can be repaired by vinyl adhesive.
You will be surprised how easy it is to repair air leak of inflatable items using vinyl adhesive. It is not ordinary glue. It is much stronger than stationary glue on your desk. Vinyl adhesive can stick firmly onto the surface of a fully blown inflatable item. Its ingredients should be literally safe as many inflatable items are expected to be used by children. Further, vinyl adhesive is waterproof and will not be washed away in contact of water. This is why good quality vinyl adhesive can be applied underwater.
Whenever it is not possible to take inflatable item completely away from water, you can repair it below water. Here are simple steps to apply vinyl adhesive and make repairs in this condition.
- Clean the surface to be patched. Wipe off dirt and dust if possible. Use a vinyl surface cleaner if possible.
- Cut vinyl patch with rounded corners to prevent peeling. The patch should be larger than the area to be repaired.
- Apply vinyl adhesive to patch. Spread adhesive evenly to cover the whole area.
- Fold the patch onto itself temporarily. Locate the area to be repaired. Unfold the patch and apply it to the area right away.
- Press firmly and carefully, forcing out all bubbles. Apply extra weight if possible to assist adhesion. Wait at least 12 hours for best curing and bonding results.
