When it comes to repairing inflatable items with self-adhesive patch, one can find a couple of product choices on the market. They are different in size, patch material and adhesive. How well a repair patch works depends on both product factors and application factors.
Product factors have to do with thickness and elasticity of patch, adhesive formulation of pressure sensitive adhesive, as well as coating thickness. These factors can and should be cautiously controlled by manufacturers.
Application factors have to do with temperature under which patches are applied, smoothness of surface to be repaired, the amount of pressure applied and contaminants on surface. These factors are mostly determined on end-users’ side.
But wait, has anyone ever mentioned the shape of patch? As one can see, squared patches are more common than rounded patches. Squared patches are less expensive than rounded ones since cutting glued sheets into squared patches does not lead to as much material waste as cutting them into rounded ones.
Nonetheless, rounded patches have the advantage of holding onto surface evenly from all directions. Further, rounded patches will not have the problem of sticking out at the corners as squared patches often do.
It is therefore suggested to cut the patch into rounded shape before applying it to surface. Or, maybe you can simply buy pre-cut round patches in the first place.
