People who frequently go out biking will sooner or later deal with flat tires. Even experienced bikers would wonder, are glueless tire patches good for repairing a puncture? Will it be more sensible to stick with tire repair glue?

Glueless tire patches are patches backed with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive. They are like super strong stickers; you can simply peel the backing and stick the patch to repair a puncture. These patches are typically made with elastic rubber-like plastic. The advantage of glueless tire patch is that one can patch a tire fast, normally in five minutes (not including dismounting and remounting tire onto rim). It is easy to apply and there will be no worry about the patch drying up.

The regular tire patches that come with tire glue are made with rubber. To patch a tire, one needs to apply glue, cut the patch and stick it to the punctured area. Since one has to wait for the glue to dry up, it normally takes 30 minutes before one can re-fit the inner tube and be back on the road. Some people find it messy to apply glue and tricky to time the curing of glue.

While some people find glueless tire patch not staying on the long run and not worth it, others prefer glueless patch to sitting around waiting for glue to dry. Yet others suggest having both options at hand. Why?

If you are not in a hurry, being on the road or at home, you can take the tire glue kit and seal the hole, waiting patiently for glue to dry. If you are in a hurry, you can either install the glueless patch or replace the punctured tube with a spare one if you happen to carry one with you.

Whether you fix a flat tire with glue or without glue, make sure you sand down the punctured area really well and clean the area good with alcohol before applying a patch. As you have applied the patch, press firmly on the patch for five minutes, forcing out air bubbles showing on the surface of the patch so that the patch can adhere well to the tube.

It surely requires practice when it comes to patching a tire. Now we have more than one option and can choose the one that we find the most suitable!
