Air mattresses and air beds are very popular among students, families and outdoor campers.
These items are easy for inflation, deflation and storage. They are soft, flat and firm and can provide comfort for a good night’s sleep. While a good quality air mattress is commonly made with puncture-resistant material, it is bound to develop a leak of some sort, eventually.
Most of air mattresses are sold along with a repair kit, in which one can usually find a piece of self adhesive repair patch. Here are the simple steps for patching a leak or pinhole in an air mattress.
- Locate the pinhole or leak with the air mattress inflated. Listen to the psssssshhh sounds or spray soap water at the suspected area to see where bubbles appear.
- Inspect the leak and measure the diameter of the area to be repaired. Mark the damaged area so you won’t miss it later. Clean the area and keep it dry.
- Cut out a rounded or oval-shaped piece of self adhesive repair patch, which should be at least three times larger than the pinhole.
- Peel off the backing paper and stick it to the area to be repaired, fully covering the pinhole. Press firmly to force out any air bubbles.
- Under optimal operating temperature 50~104°F (10~40ºC), wait 4 hours for the patch to fully dry out and cure before re-inflating the item.
Now we can stay sound asleep again during the camping trip or sleepover!
