Do you know why anti-seize copper grease is in dark brown color? What specific applications is it intended for?
Anti-seize grease is solid lubricant paste at NLGI consistency class 1 or 2. It is intended for reducing wear and optimizing friction of threaded fasteners, bolted metal joints, or metal-to-metal joints. It is specialty grease widely used wherever there are concerns about corrosion, seizing and flaying on screws, bolts, threaded joints and hinges.
Anti-seize grease offers good corrosion protection for metal and enables non-destructive dismantling. Good quality anti-seize grease remains its anti-friction even after several bolt re-tightening and loosening processes. More advanced compound grease remains effective even after long use at exposure to high temperatures.
Most commonly seen anti-seize greases contain either aluminum or copper. Aluminum powder or copper powder is added to anti-seize compound paste for high pressure applications. Anti-seize copper grease has a typical dark brown color and can resist high temperature up to 1.100 ºC.
How to apply anti-seize grease? First, clean the thread and the bolt using a wire brush. Keep the components dry and without oxide particles, dust or grease. Spread an adequate amount of the grease on the thread and make sure the grease reaches its root to obtain a good seal.
